WORSHIP

Editors Note to Readers

Issue 8.

In this issue of The New Cruse we will take a good long, hard scriptural look at Worship. In the dark ages the pendulum swung away from the beautiful and simple worship of the early church towards a terrible darkness of barren worship which emphasised ritual, tradition and denied the priesthood of all believers in the act of worship.

Today the pendulum has swung in the opposite direction. Now the feel good high of worship is emphasised for all without restriction no matter what their standing, lifestyle or belief is before God, while at the same time sacrificing God’s Word and holiness of life.

We must again return to the pattern of worship as laid down and shown in the early church as well as throughout all of scripture. In every true spiritual revival there is a genuine restoration to the real. Although most worship movements of today profess to ‘have revival’ or ‘be in revival’ the truth is that they are a far way of. A true revival will restore worship as revealed from scripture in the following articles.

Quotes

“In heathen worship man is seeking god through his own powers and through that which is material. Man is doing it, man is in control, and the door is thrown open to Satan and lying spirits to exercise the real control so that the worship becomes a tool of Satan to deceive and dominate men’s minds and hearts.” –  Alex. Rattray Hay

“Prayer is preoccupation with our needs, praise is preoccupation with our blessings, but worship is preoccupation with God Himself.” – Leonard Ravenhill

“God does not accept weak, boring, halfhearted worship!” – David Wilkerson

“Worship acceptable to God is the missing crown jewel in evangelical Christianity.” – A.W. Tozer

“God is trying to call us back to that for which He created us – to worship Him and to enjoy him for ever.”  – A.W. Tozer

“It is delightful to worship God, but it is also a humbling thing; and the man who has not been humbled in the presence of God will never be a worshiper of God at all. He may be a church member who keeps the rules and obeys the discipline, and who tithes and goes to conference, but he’ll never be a worshiper unless he is deeply humbled.” – A.W. Tozer

“Yes, worship of the loving God is man’s whole reason for existence. That is why we are born and that is why we are born again from above. That is why were created and recreated. That is why there was a genesis at the beginning re-genesis, called re-generation.” – A.W. Tozer

“I wish that we might get back to worship again. Then when people come into the church they will instantly sense that they come among holy people, God's people. They can testify, ‘Of a truth God is in this place.’”  – A.W. Tozer

“If you cannot worship the Lord in the midst of your responsibilities on Monday, it is not very likely that you were worshiping on Sunday!” – A.W. Tozer

“I cannot accept with any sympathy the idea that we go to church to soothe ourselves and calm our spirits. We do calm our spirits and there is a soothing effect in worship, but the primary object of church attendance is not to relax—it is to offer worship, which belongs to God.” – A.W. Tozer
